Those who were waiting for the new model of Expedition by Ford, their wait has finally over as Ford has brought it with more power, adaptation and enhanced the technology that keeps all family connected. Ford claims this new variant will be the smartest of all its models. Built in Kentucky at the Louisville’s Kentucky Truck Plant the new expedition instead of steel body rides on a new platform constructed with aluminum, thus making it light weighted and larger in size. This new SUV is 300 pounds light in weight than its predecessor. 300 pounds! Man, that’s a huge difference. The new model of Expedition will be available in three trim levels for regular customers, which are XLT, Limited, and Platinum trims and for fleets, XL trim will be offered. There will be limited edition of 2018 Ford Expedition Max available for those who want to carry more in a spacious SUV, this new edition will be 8 inches longer and will have 16.8 cubic feet of additional cargo space than the new model of Ford Expedition.
2018 Ford Expedition Exterior
The outlook of the new Expedition possesses softer curves and cues. The side look is quite similar to the F-15O pickup. As the new 2018 Expedition has shed some weight, it has significantly increased in length around 4 inches whereas the wheelbase has got 3 inches increase. Just like Lincoln Navigator Concept it also has muscular character line running below the windows. The windows have chrome trim around them whereas the roof rails and mirror caps have also received chrome finishing. Active grille shutters are installed to maintain air intake to the engine. Front bumper carries two hooks for towing and at the rear is the 2 inches receiver hitch for towing utility. He XLT will be housing 18 inches wheels, whereas 20 and 22 inches wheels will be housed by Limited and Platinum trims respectively. The fleets XL trim will be offered with 17 inches wheels.
Ford Expedition 2018 Interior
The interior of the new Expedition is as roomy and spacious as one can expect from a high-class SUV. Ford has carried over the same anti-glare dashboard of F-150 in this variant. The newly designed center console holds the drive modes controls along with the rotary gearshift knob. The panoramic vista roof is extended and it now covering both first and second row seats. For driver’s assistance, two tech and spec analog gauges along with large TFT display are present. On top of the infotainment screen have a bunch of buttons for different functions including hazard light, 360-degree camera, traction control etc.
The back of the front row’s center consoles two cup holders for the second seat passengers. The second-row seats can be leaned back and slide to provide access to third-row seats. Every seating row has got its own power outlet. It has four power points of 12 volts along with the 110-volt outlet. The SUV also has 6 USB chargers. The SUV provide ample flat cargo space while folding flat the second and third-row seats. A cargo shelf at the back of the third row provides a two-tier space for storing goods. Interior finishing options include metal and real wood finishing with leather covered dashboard. Heated/ventilated perforated leather seats are also optional.
Enhanced Technological Features
Ford has announced that it has added around 40 technological and connectivity features. Driver assist technology is also included. The following advanced connectivity features are offered with the new 2018 Ford Expedition.
• SYNC Connect
The buyers through FordPass can now remotely access and locate their vehicle plus while sitting anywhere they can even lock, unlock or start their car. The SYNC 3 feature keeps the driver connected as the feature is compatible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
• Wi-Fi Hotspot
If you are standing within the 50 feet radius of the vehicle, you can easily enjoy the Wi-Fi connectivity. Thanks to the Wi-Fi Hotspot feature that allows 10 devices to connect at a time.
• Wireless charging support
The center console has an Incorporated charging pad which allows the family to charge their smartphones or devices wirelessly.
• Smart Audio/Video Options
In coordination with Sling, the third row passenger can enjoy their home cable programming or live TV shows on their devices or on the video screens. High-quality sound and music can be enjoyed by the passenger thanks to the premium B&O PLAY audio system supported with 12 speakers.
Apart from advanced connectivity features the new Expedition is also upgraded some exclusive safety features, like:
• Blind spot monitoring helps the driver to monitor out of sight spots.
• Park assist to easily park in and out your car.
• Collision system to protect the pedestrian and vehicles from the possible collision.
• Lane keeps assisting to avoid drifting and keep the car in the lane.
• 360˚ camera for a broad view to ease in parking.
• Adaptive cruise control system through camera and radar let the driver sets the speed while keeping the distance between other automobiles.
This new Expedition model will be the most proficient among the previous models. It features a 3.5 liter EcoBoost second generation V6 engine which can generate 375 horsepower and 470-pound feet of torque providing the responsive performance to its passengers. The engine is mated with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Ford Expedition will come standard with front wheel drive and four wheel drive as an option. To keep the SUV more adaptable to the road conditions it features electronic limited-slip rear differential.
It will also feature Ford’s Terrain Management System which enables the driver to select from seven different driving modes with explicit arrangements for ABS, traction control, engine and other systems. Along with Sports and Normal modes, it also includes Eco, Sand, Tow and Haul, Mud and Ruts and Snow-Gravel-Grass modes of driving. The engine features auto start-stop to improve fuel economy. As the expedition is always known for its towing capability, this new variant features a smart Pro Trailer Backup Assist which eases the hack of backing up of a trailer with just moving a knob.
Price and Release date
The new Ford Expedition 2018 will be available at the dealership by fall 2017. Pricing has not been disclosed by the Company and expected to be revealed close to the selling date.
